This week is Patient Safety Awareness Week!
As recognized and observed by the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI), this week is dedicated to encouraging everyone to learn more about healthcare safety and this is especially important for the senior population.
Did you know that falls account for nearly one-third of all non-fatal injuries in the US? According to the National Safety Council, every 20 minutes an older adult dies from a fall and many more are injured. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) indicates that 3 million older adults are treated in emergency rooms each year as a result of fall injuries.
Fall-prevention measures in addition to introducing home care services in the home can help keep older adults independent for a longer period of time.
